Cyberattack Disrupts UPI and IMPS Payment Services in India
NPCI Suspends UPI IPMS Due to Ransomware Attack
Third-Party Service Provider Hit, Affecting Multiple Banks
A ransomware attack on C-Edge Technologies, a service provider to several banks in India, has temporarily disrupted the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) payment systems. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates UPI IPMS, has announced that the services will be unavailable until further notice.
The attack has impacted around 300 small banks in India that rely on C-Edge Technologies for their payment services. Customers of these banks are experiencing difficulties making and receiving payments through UPI and IMPS.
NPCI has assured that it is working with C-Edge Technologies to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. However, it is unclear when the services will be restored fully.
This disruption highlights the growing threat of cyberattacks on critical financial infrastructure. It is essential that banks and payment providers take robust security measures to protect their systems from these malicious attacks.
